K&N Engineering has released a new 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake (69-7200TP) for the 2004 Pontiac GTO 5.7L V8. K&N dynamometer tests show a 15.25 horsepower gain @ 5050 RPM for this intake. "This air intake (69-7200TP) is designed to use the factory Mass Air Flow Sensor," said K&N Project Technician Nestor Cabrera. "It uses a special radius filter adapter with a large volume high flow K&N Air Filter (RC-5138) to minimize flow restriction and increase horsepower. It also incorporates a heat shield to keep the filter protected from the rest of the engine room and ensure that it gets cool fresh air."

It also incorporates a heat shield to keep the filter protected from the rest of the engine room and ensure that it gets cool fresh air."

The K&N Filter in this kit (69-7200TP) is specially designed for the Pontiac GTO engine. "Engineers took into account the air flow requirements, location and space," said Cabrera. "We also used a chrome top for added looks."

With all K&N 69-Series Typhoon Air Intakes there is a thorough development procedure which requires the use of multiple vehicles to ensure that the horsepower gain we show is typical, said Cabrera. "There is a lot of testing that the K&N intake goes through before it if finalized for production," he said. "We were able to locate the cars we needed for testing through our car database on our website."

The vehicle design played a major role in the development and design of this 69-Series Kit (69-7200TP). "Special care was taken to ensure that the intake system followed the lines on the vehicle and that it did not obstruct or rub against other parts in the engine compartment," said Cabrera. "We took the design of the vehicle into account so that there was symmetry between the intake kit and the engine compartment ensuring that all stock covers could be re-used."
